Facial recognition technology – AIFR
October 5, 2018 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm KST
On October 5th from 7 to 8:30pm, we will have a presentation by Ms. Sidra Riaz, an AI researcher with expertise in face recognition technologies. Sidra will present on Age-Invariant Face Recognition (AIFR) research.
“Age Invariant Face Recognition:
Face recognition technology has recently gained substantial attention due to its great potential and importance in real-world applications.
Facial aging is an important problem in face recognition research, especially in missing children and automatic template updates. As aging is a temporal process, it alters an individual’s facial appearance. Age-invariant face recognition (AIFR) is a relatively new research area in face recognition domain. However, AIFR is still in the process of emergence and development, offering a large room for further investigation and accuracy improvement.
Key challenges in AIFR relate to considerable changes in facial skin appearance (wrinkles, jaw lines), facial shape, and skin tone that appear in combination with pose variations and illumination. These challenges impose limitations on current AIFR systems, and complicate the recognition task needed for identity verification. In order to address this problem, our research proposed a temporally invariant face verification system that is robust vis-à-vis several factors, such as aging (shape, texture), pose, and illumination.”
